Currently we have three full time School Resource Officers with Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. One is stationed full-time at Coal Ridge High School, another is stationed at Grand Valley High School, and also at the Riverview K-8 School. This S.R.O. also spends time in several of the other schools in the Parachute/Battlement Mesa area.

The S.R.O. program is a unique assignment that the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office provides to the community. The deputies that are picked for this assignment work countless hours in the schools, as well as in the community. The S.R.O. program is a safety-based program that focuses on building healthy relationships with students as well as school staff.

These deputies are provided the opportunity to help coach many of the different sports throughout the school year and they also assist in the many different types of clubs that the school provides to the students.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office S.R.O. team also spends a significant amount of time teaching within their respective schools. Many of the topics include Government, Drug Awareness, Biology, and Math. This provides the S.R.O.’s an opportunity to continue to build on relationships and to show students that Law Enforcement is there to help them.

The S.R.O. program is one of the best programs that Law Enforcement can provide to our communities. The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office S.R.O.’s have a direct impact on the lives of young adults and can help mold and guide them by teaching, coaching, and mentoring the students as they progress through school. Good S.R.O.’s have a direct impact on the culture within our community and help build trust and confidence.
